| D.A.W.N. NEWS September 2005 Another Marriage
"You're not old, just bald." 
When Ralph Norton read those words, "Your not old, just bald," he laughed and decided okay, lets take this relationship to the next level. He had been in D.A.W.N for about a year and had received numerous referrals, but was particularly enjoying his latest long distance referral from Kristen Kaufman in Florida. Ralph lives in North Carolina, so the two of them were developing a wonderful friendship through telephone calls and e-mailing. He kept telling Kristen he was too old for her. At the time she was 41, he was 52. Ralph was seeking a "woman who wore a smile and enjoyed the simple things in life, rather then materialistic, a true lover of life who enjoys the wonders it holds." Kristen, too, had joined D.A.W.N and was receiving dozens of referrals and making long lasting friendships. Then came Ralph. Hmmm, she really liked him, but he kept telling her he was too old!. Too bad, she truly did enjoy the simple things in life, like sailing, swimming, nature, long walks with or without her dog, music, and playing bridge. When the two exchanged pictures, she wrote Ralph back, "You're not old, just bald!"
The rest, as they say, is history. The two were married in June of 2005. They will reside in North Carolina. Kristen thanks D.A.W.N for her "amazing husband." She states, "You never know when two people may click. We started as friends and eventually realized we meant more to each other. We are happier than we ever thought possible."
A Fashion Show kicks off
Disability Awareness Month
The month of October begins National Disability Awareness Month. Tucson, Arizona, will start the month off in style with a most unique Fashion Show Makeover Event which will take place October 1, 2005, at the Foothills Mall in Tucson.
The models in our fashion show will be D.A.W.N clients and other people with disabilities from the disabled community who come to us with a variety of "abilities." They will range with varied ages, cultural,and ethnic backgrounds to models with a variety of physical and mental challenges. We will be presenting a most positive image for all people with and without disabilities.
Awareness, YES! Let's show the public that we are all beautiful people and "looking good is feeling good" and "feeling good is looking good." Let the bright aura surround our models and enlighten the public that we are all just people with same feelings needs and desires. |
